Fr. Agustino Torres, CFR has accepted our invitation to speak at AYF 2013: Hidden and Revealed.
Fr. Agustino Miguel Torres is the Director of Evenagelization for the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal, co-founder of Catholic Underground, Founder of Corazon Puro and is Executive Director of Casa Juan Diego an outreach to the poor in Yonkers NY. He is known for his ardent zeal in bringing the light of Christ to the youth all around the world. Growing up on the border of Texas and Mexico he lived a fast paced life until the Lord helped him to see the emptiness in the life he was living. In a span of two years he saw a number of his friends die in accidents, suicide, gang and drug related violence. He also had a couple of brushes with death that helped him begin to ask some deeper questions. Through some retreats, World Youth Day and much prayer and fasting by a lot of people, his life took on radical changes. The coming of Bl. Pope John Paul II to the United States precipitated his conversion and put him on a path to a religious vocation.
Being a Franciscan Friar of the Renewal for the past 12 years, he has dedicated his life to serving the poor and spreading the Gospel of our Lord. Some of his work and efforts consists of helping the poor, especially the destitute and the homeless through soup kitchens, food pantries and shelters. He has also dedicated efforts in evangelizing the youth through "Corazon Puro", a movement that began in Bronx, NY which focuses on teaching the true meaning of human sexuality through the works of Pope John Paul II's "Theology of the Body."
Having been ordained a priest in 2008, he is now Superior of St. Michael's Friary in the Diocese of Paterson, NJ. He continues leading a life of prayer and works challenging today's youth to have a radical love for Jesus through word and example.
